José María Figueres
Former President of Costa Rica, Member of the Club of Madrid
Figueres was President of Costa Rica from 1994 to 1998. Prior to this he served as
Foreign Trade Minister and Minister of Agriculture. Figueres is a former CEO of the World Economic Forum. He has been Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General to the Information and Communication Technologies Advisory Group, now a task force, since 2000. He has been a member of many NGOs such as the World Resources Institute, World Wildlife Fund, the Leadership in Environment and Development, FUNDES International, Stockholm Environment Institute and the Costa Rica Foundation for Sustainable Development, of which he is the founder.
