Eric Usher leads the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) work on clean energy investment. Until 2008 he led UNEP’s renewable energy finance team, and in this role was responsible for a range of activities aimed at engaging the finance sector in the shift towards low carbon energy infrastructure. This work focuses on new means for financing climate infrastructure and new approaches to delivering cleaner energy services in regions without access. In 2009, Eric is managing UNEP’s newly launched Seed Capital Assistance Facility (SCAF), engaging the private investment community in financing early stage low carbon energy ventures. He also coordinates the Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative (SEFI). Usher is lead author for finance for the IPCC Special Report on Renewables and the Global Energy Assessment.
